If you are serious about playing Collegiate Level Sports you should be sending e-mails to the Head Coach at all the schools you are interested in. Let them know you are interested, and tell them where you will be playing, so they can check you out if they are interested. Also, making a video can never be a bad idea, most coaches like to have them, because they don't have to spend as much time traveling, or at least they will have a brief glimpse of what type of player you are, before they spend their time checking you out.

A coach from San Jose State visited my school for a school athletics get together. One of his main points was that if they do get videos, they do not watch them. The college admission process is sadly, very brief, and the admission officers do not have the time to watch movies as they typically have around 10-15 minutes to go through the student's other paperwork. So be aware that for some schools, making showcases might be wasted effort. Call them up and see.

That could be true for some schools, but from personal experiences, the footage my friends and I have sent into colleges have been viewed with coaches providing feedback. It is true that college coaches have little time to review each individual's portfolio: this is why making an effective video is soooo important. So it is important to keep everything in perspective, and make sure you are truly committed to creating your video as well as participating in your sport.
