Okay so I'm new here and I was just about to start on the first activity to complete and I was downloading the GIMP thing but Microsoft won't open it. I've tried everything but it just won't open at all and I don't know what to do. Any tips?

Glad I could help! The graphics lab learning path is great, some of the users are creating some really cool stuff. Work your way through the activities, and when you finish, be sure to look at the challenge actvities. There are some nice prizes you can win!

GIMP is a very large program, so the download is a zip archive file, which is compressed so that your download finishes more quickly. Once you download the zip archive, you have to unpack it to get the actual GIMP executable that will run. When you go to the first FreshBrain activity, you click on a link and visit the Giant Campus page. There you click on a link to download GIMP. Windows may pop up a dialog asking if you want to open the file or save it. Select Save, and save the zip file on your system (try saving it to your Desktop so it is easy to find). Now go find the downloaded file, it'll look like a folder with a zipper on it. Click the right-mouse button on it and select Extract All... This will take you to a Wizard for extracting the files that are inside the zip archive. (double-clicking on the zip file probably does the same thing as right-mouse -> Extract All). Go through the Wizard to Extract the files. You'll end up with a folder called Gimp_software_installer (if you saved the zip archive on your desktop, the extracted folder will be there as well). Now you open the Gimp_software_installer folder, and there will be a file called gimp-2.4.5-i686-setup.exe in it. That is the GIMP installer; double click on that file and follow the instructions to install GIMP. Once you have installed GIMP, you can run it (probably from the Start menu) and start on the activity.
