I suppose. I learned C++ first around 7th grade and took CSA in my last yaer (sophmore) and it was horrendous. It maybe was the textbook, but I dislike Java. | |

I would still recommend Java for a couple reasons:

If you can, (unless you're developing for phones) avoid Java. You want a much more powerful langauge and if you insist on something similar to Java, go for C#. | |
