 I was just browsing casually, and upon clicking the "badges" tab I noticed that it says I haven't earned any badges yet... Is this just a glitch or some other bug in the system that just isn't displaying them or is it something else, and can this be fixed? Off the top of my head, the badges I can think of having are the virtual summer camp, digital graphics, digital graphics challenge, animation, first place in visual hoax contest....pretty much everything that matches up with my activities I guess. And looking at some profiles, I see that there are badges for other users, so I'm just a bit confused here. | |

 I think I understand completely now what was going on ... The "badges" tab, we were completely unaware that was even there. Our intent all along was that the badges would just be visible in the user's profile. But the way our system works, that badges tab showed up automatically. We didn't even know it was there! :-) We'll be removing that tab in the near future, to avoid confusion. The only place that badges will be visible is on the user's profile page. Now, it sounds like the badges tab used to work for you, and you could see your badges there, and then it stopped working and started saying that you haven't earned any badges yet. I think I know what caused that -- we had a performance issue related to the badges that we recently fixed. Part of the fix is that the badges only get retrieved from the database when you visit the profile page. So by going to the tab, it was no longer getting your badges from the database. We didn't realize this, and never tested it, because we didn't know about the badges tab. As I said, badges tab will go away soon, so that will take care of that issue. And yes, you are correct about animation badges. The idea behind the badges for summer camp is that you earned them by completing the learning path (doing all of the activities). If you were partially done, you got one of those private badges that nobody else could see, that told you what level you had completed. Just sort of a reminder as to where you were in the LP, and what to work on next. In the badge view (on your profile page) you can actually click on that animation badge and it'll jump you to the animation learning path. And thanks for bringing this to our attention, as I was, we wern't aware of the extra badges tab on some of those pages, and the effect we had on it by making our performance changes. | |

Well, I've always just clicked on either "My FreshBrain"or "My Projects and Activities" and from there there would be another tab that says "badges" (http://www.freshbrain.org/myfreshbrain/badge) I've always been doing this, and I didn't even know that I could look at them on my profile until now. The ones on my profile are there, but not the ones under the other one. And I see what you mean about the animation badges, so nobody else can see them until they're totally completed? Ah, nevermind, I guess you've answered your own question, then :D | |

Oh, I see now --if you go to "my FreshBrain", there is a Badges tab, and if you click on it is always says that you haven't earned any badges. This is strange, I'm not sure why that tab is even there. Anyway, this isn't the correct place to see badges, the badges are displayed on the profile. At the top of the page, there is a "Profile" menu. Click profile, select "View", and you should see your badges. We'll look into this issue with the badges tab being displayed on the my FreshBrain page, that probably shouldn't be there. | |

I just viewed your profile at this link: http://freshbrain.org/user/elliepop And I see 4 badges: summer camp 2009, digital graphics learning path completed, digital graphics t-shirt contest completed, and digital graphics visual hoax 1st place. I don't see animation, did you complete that learning path? If you did some of the activities for animation, but didn't complete all of the activities, you may see a badge for animation that shows what level you completed; these "partial" badges are private to the user, you should see them on your profile but nobody else will see them. They serve as a reminder and a link to "work in progress". The badges for completed Learning Paths and for the challenge activities are "public" badges, and all users can see them on your profile. Anyway, looks like the badges are there, and visible on your profile. I'm a bit curious that you said you clicked the badges tab -- I don't think you should be seeing the badges tab, that is just for admins to award badges to users. Can you tell me step-by-step what you clicked on that got you to a point where you can see the badges tab? By the way, congratulations on 1st place in the visual hoax contest, and completing the graphics lab learning path. I hope you enjoyed the virtual summer camp. Even though summer is over, the learning paths are still up on the site -- feel free to continue working on animation or any other LPs that interest you! | |
