Create a Networked Composition or Mashup
Step 1: Look at some examples of networked compositions on the internet. Check these out.
Step 2: Through your social networks, find some geographically-diverse friends who want to collaborate on a musical composition.
Step 3: Have a meeting to decide on the direction of the composition. Use IM or other tools to meet with your friends to decide on the direction of the composition.
Step 4: Use audio or video conferencing to perform the composition, and record the composition from the internet. Try:
Skype
Oovoo
Tokbox
Alternatively, have your participants recording their parts separately, and then combine them later.
Step 5: Edit and mix the recording into a new piece. Put each recording from each participant on a separate track, and then edit, add effects, and refine each track one-by-one.
Step 6: Export your final product and upload it to FreshBrain!
Step 7 (optional): Make a video that reveals the fact that the recordings for the composition didn't happen in the same place.
