Sadly, I have absolutely no software in order to do the cool projects on this site. :( I thought maybe it would be on the site, available to use when I signed up. But for anyone else who can afford new software, its great.

Sesamestreet is absolutely right, many of the tools listed here like Paint.net and Gimp are absolutely free. You just need to download them from their respective sites. Also, it is more of YOUR talent that makes something amazing. I saw some very amazing things drawn in paint, and many cool programs made with notepad.
I'm sure you will make some good stuff soon.

Many of the projects and activities could be done using software that are free! Did you check out the tools page? We do hope to update those tools mentioned more regularly though.
Suggest you start a project and ask the community for the kind of free tools you need to work on your project.
