This took a lot longer then I intended to.. I've probably spent about 3 or so hours just fiddling with the background, but I finally settled on a more simple look.
I do like technology- rather, I need it. However, like most beneficial things, there's always some sort of backlash. Technology, while a means of innovation, has sparked a new culture: a nation dominated with instant communication and entertainment. For the theme I decided to focus on a specific consequence of technology... the impact it has on family.
It's not uncommon to see people using the television as a babysitter, or to have it on during dinner time. A lot of families (including my own) replace bonding time with TV-time. Though during pre WWII the TV brought the family together, over time it involved more as a mind-numbing activity to escape from daily life stress (ironically most of which caused by the increased productivity tech. has enabled), and families really just sit watching instead of talking. I think TV (and technology in general) has sadly started to break down the traditional family image.
Ah, and I chose to use the color half-tone method to mirror the pixel style of TV images, but unfortunately it doesn't come off as well as I wanted it to, haha.
Photoshop 7, Bamboo Fun Tablet, and an old family photo.
